Indications:

Supportive treatment for diarrhea in adults and children

Administration and Dosage:

Children from 2 to 3 years: starting dose 10 ml, then 5 ml every hour, maximum daily dose 60 ml.
Children from 4 to 5 years: starting dose 20 ml, then 10 ml every hour, maximum daily dose 80 ml.
Children from 6 years and adults: Starting dose 30 ml, then 15 ml every hour, maximum daily dose 120 ml

Drug interactions:

Avoid concurrent use of this medicine with anticoagulants (such as warfarin), CNS depressant (such as benzodiazepines and phenobarbital), alcohol, digoxin, lovastatin and tetracycline.

Contraindications and precautions:

•   Avoid taking this drug if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to one of active ingredients, Asteraceae family (or Compositae family) or one of the other ingredients.
•   It is not recommended for infants and children under 2 years old.
•   Continue the use of Diastop syrup until you have diarrhea but if the symptoms of the disease persist for more than two days, contact a professional healthcare.
•   Precipitation in herbal solution does not reduce its therapeutic effect. Shake bottle well before use.
•   Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. Continue the treatment as described in the package leaflet or prescribed by the doctor.
•   If you are under a special medication or having a special condition, consult with you physician before use.

Side effects
Hypersensitivity reactions may occur in individuals with a known allergy to chamomile and Asteraceae family.
Some people may also experience gastrointestinal disorders such as mild cramps.

Mechanism of Action:

Diarrhea is one of the leading causes of illness and death among children in developing countries. Despite advances in medical sciences, diseases such as diarrhea, especially in developing countries still kills a lot of people. Diarrhea causes malnutrition and can have a detrimental effect on growth if the disease lasts for a long time. Although most diarrhea cases are relatively short-lived (less than 7 days), but the number of cases of prolonged diarrhea (at least 14 days) can have serious consequences, including malnutrition, stoppage and slow growth and human casualties. One of the effective treatments for diarrhea is using chamomile extract and apple pectin. A clinical trial evaluated the efficacy of chamomile extract and apple pectin in treatment of acute diarrhea in children. The results showed that chamomile extract and apple pectin have beneficial effects in shortening the duration and reducing the symptoms of the disease. Apple pectin prevents the growth of pathogenic microorganisms by creating a protective wall on the intestine, and chamomile accelerates the healing process due to its anti-spasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Active Ingredients and Components :

Diastop syrup has been formulated and prepared, in accordance with scientific and standard methods, from the extract of Matricaria chamomilla (German chamomile) and apple pectin. Chamomile has long been used to treat diarrhea in children and is used in addition to laxatives for the treatment of stomach and intestinal cramps as well as healing of inflammations. The pectin present in this drug increases its effectiveness and accelerates the effect of this product. Each gram of syrup contains 0.01-0.07 mg Apigenin.
